Do you find yourself irritated at the smallest thing? Do you look around and think, what am I doing in Japan? or even why can’t anyone speak English to me!!! This is what is called Culture Shock or Homesickness. Think about all your values, the things you were taught all change when you go to a different country not to visit but to live. People bump into you, NO EXCUSE ME!! 😡 If you are feeling these way, the best remedy is to first breathe. Next, talk to people who have experienced the same feelings through social media or fellow workers. In fact, you can tell me. Believe me when I say, I have been through it all in Japan. From rudeness to down right prejudice (I still deal with this) but I have learned to cope.
It does get better if you embrace the beauty and culture of Japan. You can form a new YOU combining your values from your home country with those you have or will learn in Japan.
Share you thoughts with us here. Let's break the hold on homesickness.
By the way, during Christmas time, my homesickness kicks in. It is always there.
Breathe!!!
