Advancing your career

Some people just come to Japan to have the experience of living in a foreign country, others want to travel and work at the same time. Some even just want to learn about the work ethics of Japan and take it back to their home country and apply them. Finally, there are those of us who want live in Japan for 5 or 10 years maybe even for the rest of your life.

If your plan is to stay for a long period of time, you may not want to be an Assistant Teacher the whole time you are here. Most people would like an advance in their career. If you do, there are some steps you must take to do it. 1) Learn Japanese (not just words) conversational or business it will help you to communicate clearly for Japanese people to know you as a person and not just a foreign in Japan

2) Teach as an ALT for 1 to 3 year. This will help you to learn the work environment if Japan. The mannerisms and cultural aspects can be used in an office environment. 3) Learn to drive - seems not necessary but it shows Japanese people you have the skills to learn and pick up information quickly. 4) The ability to lead- Guiding people in the right direction is what any company wants. 5) Computer skill - you must have the ability to create new ideas and plans for your presentations.
